Being one of the newest members of Sleeping Giant Music, I’d love to touch on the subject of entering the Music industry and some helpful tips for people who are just starting out. It can be a very overwhelming process and these crucial points could make all the difference in getting yourself from point A to point B.

Assuming the role of Operations in a Music Booking Agency is no easy feat. I was warned in the interviewing process how time extensive training would be and didn’t actually believe it until I am sitting where I am at now. So below I have listed a few of the things that I believe are the most important to start incorporating into your early music business career that will get you to the next level.

Show Face
By showing face, I mean being present at events – both locally and nationally. Most of our networking takes place at artist’s performances and it’s extremely important that you are there to make those connections with important contacts. Connections and being at the right place at the right time furthers your chances in extending a healthy network and establishes your credibility within the industry. Always have those business cards on you!!!

Surround Yourself with Positivity
Having a positive attitude is important in any job or aspect of people’s lives. It is even more so when your job consists of communicating with people on a daily basis. People enjoy working with people that make them feel good and will want to do business with people who truly make their lives and jobs an easier process. Affiliate and associate yourself wisely – this can result in new opportunities and successes.

Cover Your Bases
It’s important to think outside the box. There are a lot of so-called “gray areas” due to the fact that every booking or show varies. Staying organized and detail oriented is crucial for pulling off a successful transaction with clients and artists alike. When you execute covering your bases, you are also strengthening your professionalism and quality of your service.

Be Hungry
Having a passion and a drive is obviously important but you also can’t forget to have a vision for yourself. Take the time to write out your plan and practice moving forward and completing those goals – both long and short term. Be open to new ideas and creative pathways, this will allow you to build and improve the value that you bring to the table.
